An SEO analyst receives a 60-page competitor backlink report as a PDF. Every outbound link they need for analysis is buried across those pages, none of them clickable from the report viewer. A researcher has an academic paper with 80 footnote URLs they need to verify. A digital marketer gets a PR agency's PDF press release report containing hundreds of pickup links to submit to an indexing service. All three people need the same thing: every URL in that PDF, in a clean list, without reading through each page by hand.
Acrobat has no native export-all-links button. Copying them manually from a long document is slow and error-prone. This tool scans both the annotation layer and the text layer of any PDF, pulls every URL matching http, https, www, and mailto patterns, deduplicates on request, and gives you a one-click CSV export or clipboard copy. Everything runs in the browser. The PDF never leaves your device.
How It Works
- Upload your PDF by dragging and dropping the file or clicking to browse. The tool loads the document and immediately shows the page count and file size. No processing begins until you choose your settings and click Extract.
- Configure your extraction settings by choosing a mode: All URLs (catches http, https, www, and mailto), Web URLs Only (filters to web addresses exclusively), or Email Addresses Only (pulls contact addresses from mailto links and plain text email patterns). Toggle Show Unique URLs Only to deduplicate results before they display. Switch between All Pages and Current Page to target the full document or a specific page.
- Extract and export by clicking Extract URLs. The tool reads annotation objects (embedded clickable hyperlinks with URI entries) and scans the text layer for URL patterns written in the document body. Results appear alongside three statistics: Total URLs found, Unique count, and Pages with URLs. Copy the full list to clipboard, or download a clean CSV for use in Excel, Google Sheets, or any link auditing workflow.
Compatibility & Support
Supported Input → Output Formats
- Input: Standard PDF (text-based with selectable content)
- Output options: Copy to clipboard, or CSV download
- URL types detected: http:// links, https:// links, www. prefixed addresses, mailto: email links, plain text email address patterns
- Extraction scope: All pages (full document) or current page only
Unsupported Formats
Scanned PDFs that contain only rasterized page images with no text layer cannot be processed because there is no text or annotation data to read. Run an OCR pass on the scanned file first to generate a text layer, then extract URLs from the processed version. Password-protected PDFs that restrict content access cannot be processed until the protection is removed.
File Size Limits
All processing runs client-side in the browser, so no server-imposed size cap applies. Large PDFs with many pages and numerous links process in seconds on modern browsers. Very large documents may take a few extra moments to parse fully, but no file size restriction stops the extraction from completing.
Who Should Use This Tool?
- Students: A student writing a literature review can extract all reference URLs from a downloaded academic PDF in seconds, eliminating the need to manually copy each footnote link to build their reading list or bibliography.
- Freelancers & Designers: An SEO freelancer receiving a client content audit as a PDF can extract every external link from the document and export the CSV directly into a link checker tool to identify broken or redirected URLs.
- Office Professionals: A compliance officer reviewing a vendor contract PDF can pull all external links in the document to verify that referenced websites and resources are still live and belong to the expected domains.
- Developers: A developer auditing a PDF knowledge base before migrating content to a new CMS can extract all embedded URLs to build a redirect map and verify that no linked resources are lost during the migration.
Key Features
Here's what separates this tool from generic alternatives:
No Server Upload
URL extraction runs entirely in your browser. Confidential contracts, internal reports, and proprietary research documents never transfer to any external server during the scan.
Dual Source Detection
The tool reads PDF annotation objects (embedded hyperlink elements) and scans the text layer for URL patterns. Tools that only read annotations miss plain text URLs; this one catches both types.
Email Address Mode
Switch to Email Addresses Only to filter extraction results to contact addresses exclusively. Useful for pulling contact lists from PDF directories, event programs, or academic papers without web URL noise in the results.
Duplicate Removal
The Show Unique URLs Only toggle deduplicates the extracted list before display. If the same URL appears on ten pages of a report, it appears once in the output, keeping the result clean for auditing and import.
CSV Export
Download the full URL list as a CSV file with one click. Open it directly in Excel or Google Sheets for sorting, filtering, broken link checking, or importing into SEO and content management workflows.
Per-Page Extraction
Switch to Current Page mode to extract URLs from a single page rather than the whole document. Useful when you only need links from a specific section of a large report.
Why This Tool Beats the Alternatives
- No account, email, or signup required at any point.
- No watermarks added to any output file.
- No server upload; the PDF and its link data stay on your device throughout extraction.
- Three extraction modes (All URLs, Web URLs Only, Email Addresses Only) rather than a single undifferentiated link dump.
- Dual detection from both annotation objects and plain text patterns ensures no URL is missed.
- CSV export included for free, with no paid tier required to access it.
Pro Tips
- Run the extraction twice on large reports: once with All URLs selected to see the full scope, then again with Web URLs Only and Unique enabled to produce the clean deduplicated list you actually need for an audit or link-building submission.
- If a PDF contains sponsored or affiliate links that repeat across many pages, enabling Show Unique URLs Only before extracting gives you a single occurrence of each URL. This is the correct setting for any workflow where you need a distinct link inventory rather than a frequency count.
- After exporting the CSV, paste the URL column into a bulk broken link checker to identify dead or redirected links. For PDF reports hosted on websites, this is the fastest way to audit outbound links without manually clicking each one across potentially hundreds of pages.
Upload your PDF, choose your extraction mode, and have every URL in a copyable list or CSV within seconds. If you also need to pull the plain text content from the same document, the Extract Text from PDF tool handles that in the same browser-based workflow.
