Every engineer and architect knows the problem. A consultant sends a PDF of the drawing. You need to modify it, add to it, or build on it in AutoCAD. But they will not send the original DWG file, and manually retracing every line, arc, and dimension from a PDF underlay wastes hours on work that already exists. If the PDF was originally created from a vector-based CAD file, all the path data is technically still inside it. This converter extracts that data directly and writes it as native DXF entities: LINE, LWPOLYLINE, SPLINE, ARC, TEXT, and MTEXT. No retracing. Just editable geometry in AutoCAD, LibreCAD, QCAD, or any DXF-compatible application. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Unsupported Formats

  • Scanned PDFs (raster image-only): A scanned drawing has no vector path data to extract. The converter will embed the page as a WIPEOUT image reference in the DXF, which you can use as a tracing underlay in AutoCAD, but it will not produce editable lines or arcs. Check whether your PDF has selectable geometry by trying to click on a line in a PDF viewer before uploading.
  • Password-protected PDFs: Encryption blocks PDF.js from accessing any content. Remove the password before converting.
  • 3D CAD models: DXF output from this tool represents 2D page geometry. Three-dimensional solids from 3D CAD are not supported.

File Size Limits

There is no server-side file size cap since all processing runs in your browser. Multi-page technical drawing PDFs with dense geometry may take longer on lower-RAM devices. Using the custom page range to convert specific sheets one section at a time is the practical approach for very large drawing sets.
