🔒 100% Private: Your Excel file is read and converted entirely in your browser using SheetJS and PDF-Lib. Nothing is uploaded to any server. Supports XLSX, XLS, CSV, and ODS formats with multiple sheets.

Columns getting cut off is the single most reported problem with Excel to PDF conversion. A wide financial model looks perfect in the spreadsheet, then loses its rightmost columns somewhere between the Excel print preview and the PDF output. The root cause is almost always the same: the page width setting does not match the data width. A 20-column budget sheet converted to A4 portrait at the default font size will truncate. Switch to landscape, drop the font size, and it fits.

There is a second problem for anyone without Microsoft Office. Macs, Linux machines, and Chromebooks have no native Excel export to PDF. Google Sheets can convert XLSX files but often shifts column widths and drops formatting in the process. This browser-based converter uses SheetJS to read the spreadsheet data and PDF-Lib to build the PDF directly in the browser, with full control over orientation, font size, and row styling. It supports XLSX, XLS, CSV, and ODS. Nothing is uploaded to any server.

How It Works

  1. Upload your spreadsheet by dragging it onto the upload area or clicking to browse. SheetJS parses the file in the browser, detects all sheets, and displays them in a selection list. A preview panel loads the sheet data before conversion begins.
  2. Configure your settings by selecting which sheets to include and choosing PDF options: page size (A4 Portrait or Landscape, A3 Portrait or Landscape, US Letter, Letter Landscape), font size (9px tiny through 13px large), header style (Colored header row, Bold only, or No header styling), header color, row style (Striped rows, Plain rows, or Bordered only), output format (One PDF with all sheets, or Separate PDFs in a ZIP), max rows per sheet, and page number visibility.
  3. Convert and download by clicking Convert to PDF. The tool processes through Reading File, Parsing Sheets, Rendering Tables, Building PDF, and Done. PDF-Lib assembles the table layouts into a paginated PDF document. Download the single PDF file, or if Separate PDFs was selected, download the ZIP archive containing one PDF per sheet.

Compatibility & Support

Supported Input → Output Formats

  • Input formats: XLSX (Excel 2007 and later), XLS (Excel 97-2003), CSV (comma-separated values), ODS (OpenDocument Spreadsheet from LibreOffice and Google Sheets export)
  • Output: PDF, either as a single file with all selected sheets or as separate PDFs per sheet in a ZIP archive
  • Page sizes: A4 Portrait, A4 Landscape, A3 Portrait, A3 Landscape, US Letter, Letter Landscape
  • Row styling: Striped rows, Plain rows, Bordered only
  • Header styling: Colored header row (custom color), Bold only, No styling

Unsupported Formats

XLSM (macro-enabled workbooks), XLSB (binary Excel format), and password-protected Excel files are not supported. Excel charts, embedded images, conditional formatting colors, and cell formulas are not rendered in the PDF output since the converter reads the computed cell values and table structure rather than visual formatting rules. Complex merged cell layouts may require manual adjustment of font size and orientation settings for optimal fit.

File Size Limits

All processing runs in-browser via SheetJS and PDF-Lib with no server upload, so no external file size cap applies. Very large spreadsheets with thousands of rows may take a few extra seconds to parse and render, but process completely. Using the Max Rows per Sheet setting limits output length for extremely large datasets where a full export would produce an unreadably long PDF.

Who Should Use This Tool?

  • Students: A student on a Mac without Microsoft Office can upload a downloaded XLSX assignment template, configure it to A4 portrait with striped rows, and submit a professional-looking PDF without needing any paid software.
  • Freelancers & Designers: A freelance accountant sending a monthly expense report to a client can convert their XLSX budget sheet to a clean, bordered PDF with colored headers in the company's brand color, without exposing the editable source file.
  • Office Professionals: A finance team producing a quarterly multi-tab report can select specific sheets from the workbook, set A3 Landscape for the widest data tabs, and output each sheet as a separate PDF in a single ZIP for distribution to different department leads.
  • Developers: A developer generating CSV exports from a database pipeline can convert each CSV to a formatted, paginated PDF with bordered rows and page numbers for use in compliance reports or audit trails without writing a custom PDF rendering script.

Key Features

Here's what separates this tool from generic alternatives:

🔒

No Server Upload

SheetJS and PDF-Lib process everything in your browser. Financial models, payroll sheets, and confidential business data never transfer to any external server during conversion.

📐

Six Page Size Options Including A3

A4, A3, and US Letter in both portrait and landscape orientations. A3 Landscape is the most effective fix for wide spreadsheets that cut off columns on standard page sizes.

🔤

Font Size Control

Four font sizes from 9px (tiny) to 13px (large) let you trade readability for column width. Dropping to 9px on a wide spreadsheet often fits all columns on a single page without switching to a larger paper size.

🎨

Header and Row Styling

Apply a custom color to the header row, set bold-only styling, or remove all header formatting. Row styles include striped, plain, and bordered. A styled spreadsheet PDF reads significantly better than a plain text dump.

📄

Multi-Sheet and Separate PDF Output

Select individual sheets or all sheets. Output as one combined PDF or as separate PDFs per sheet in a ZIP file. The Separate PDFs option is the right choice when different sheets go to different recipients.

📊

Supports CSV and ODS

Beyond XLSX and XLS, CSV and ODS files convert directly without any pre-conversion step. LibreOffice users, Google Sheets ODS exports, and database CSV outputs all work as direct input.

Why This Tool Beats the Alternatives

  • No account, email, or signup required at any point.
  • No watermarks added to the PDF output.
  • No server upload; spreadsheets with financial or HR data stay in the browser throughout conversion.
  • CSV and ODS support alongside XLSX and XLS; most basic converters only handle XLSX.
  • Six page orientation and size options including A3 Landscape for wide data; basic tools offer only A4.
  • Header color, row styling, and font size controls produce a professional output rather than a plain text table.

Pro Tips

  • If columns are still cutting off after switching to landscape orientation, drop the font size to 9px first. Most spreadsheet data remains readable at 9px on screen and in print, and the reduction in cell width often brings the last two or three columns back within the page boundary without needing a larger paper size.
  • For spreadsheets where each sheet represents a different report or client, use Separate PDFs output and the zero-padded sheet naming option. Each sheet downloads as its own file in the ZIP, named consistently for straightforward renaming and filing after download.
  • Use the Max Rows per Sheet setting when converting database exports or data logs that run to thousands of rows. Setting a row limit of 500 or 1000 produces a more manageable PDF with sensible page breaks rather than one continuous multi-hundred-page document.

Upload your spreadsheet, configure orientation and styling, and download a clean PDF in seconds. If you need to convert the PDF back to an editable spreadsheet afterward, the PDF to Excel converter handles that in the same browser-based workflow.
